The First Step in a Journey

Matsuo Bacho was a revered poet renowned for his beautiful but spare Haiku verse. Matsuo is credited with having created the Haiku art form. Born into a noble Japanese family more than 400 years ago, Matsuo abandoned a life of luxury to spend his years wandering the Japanese wilderness finding inspiration in nature.

Matsuo’s journey had no destination, but it did have a purpose – the deep experiencing of life, its beauty and its rawness – to create what became an enduring legacy of poetry and wisdom.
Matsuo was not so much a talker as a wanderer, but we at The Demeter Institute are all professional talkers who also love to listen.
